Order of The Eastern Star No 650

Masonic Hall, Academy Place, Brora

Meetings:-3rd Wednesday, September to May inclusive

Founded in 1973, the Sutherland Chapter of the Eastern Star meets in the Masonic Hall, Brora, on the third Wednesday of the month from September to May, having 9 meetings a year. Membership of the Order of the Eastern Star is not available to all, it is only for those who are Masons or have a close family member who is a Mason, this usually extends to wives and daughters. Members are referred to as 'Sisters' and 'Brothers', it is mainly female orientated, and although it needs men (Brothers) to hold certain offices, a Brother cannot hold the chair of authority to preside over the 'Chapter'.

As with the Dornoch Royal Arch, Chapter No 650 of the Order of the Eastern Star is the only Chapter in Sutherland and answers directly to the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland, but just so there is no confusion , this is not the same as the Supreme Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch. There are many ruling bodies in Masonic Orders.

Membership has fallen due to ill health and members passing away, but there has been an up-turn recently with some new members joining giving a good feeling in the Order.
